UDSM is the oldest University in Tanzania, established in 1961. In 2014, UDSM founded a College of Health and Allied Sciences where Dr. B. Ngowi is based. UDSM will lead WP1 and 8, and take up sponsorship for the clinical trial, for which it has extensive experience and the capacity. UDSM will also assist in data collection for the other WPs in the framework of the trial and contribute to WP7, WP6 and WP5. Dr. Ngowi is an epidemiologist and a public health specialist, with longstanding experience in HIV, opportunistic infections, tuberculosis and T. solium research, in the framework of clinical trials. He is currently also the scientific coordinator of NeuroSolve (Global Health EDCTP3 JU project), where superior treatment regimes for NCC are assessed. His involvement in public health programs, provides an excellent link with the authorities. B Ngowi is a member of the East African Consortium for Clinical Research and a monitoring and evaluation officer of the Afrique One ASPIRE Consortium. B. Ngowi will provide the current project with solid knowledge on the management of NCC, SCH and STH.

Dr. Bernard Ngowi
Dr Bernard Ngowi is a senior lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam Mbeya College of Health and Allied Sciences and an adjunct research fellow at the National Institute for Medical Research, Tanzania. He is an epidemiologist and a public health specialist. Ngowi is a member of the East African Consortium for Clinical Research. He is currently the scientific coordinator of 3SI-CONTROL, an EDCTP3-funded project, where superior treatment regimens for NCC are assessed.
Dr. Charles Makasi
Dr. Makasi is a medical doctor and public health researcher with a strong background in clinical research and strengthening health systems. He serves as a Research Fellow in the NeuroSolve and 3SI Control projects under the University of Dar es Salaam – MCHAS. Makasi is passionate about leveraging research and innovation to improve population health outcomes in Tanzania and across the region.
