UNZA is a public university located in Lusaka, Zambia. It is Zambia’s largest and oldest learning institution. UNZA is WP2 leader, with also a strong involvement in WP1 and 3. Furthermore, they will contribute to collecting data for WP4, and be involved in WP5, 6 and 7 as well as WP8. Prof. Mwape is a senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Clinical Studies of the School of Veterinary Medicine, with a PhD in veterinary tropical diseases from the University of Pretoria. Dr. Mwape has over 15 years of experience in T. solium research including field work in rural settings including community engagement, diagnostics, NCC management and control of T. solium. He is involved in the CYSTINET Africa Consortium and has been the local coordinator for the CYSTISTOP and SOLID projects. He also coordinates the cysticercosis Regional Reference Laboratory for the taeniosis/cysticercosis. Dr. Zulu has been involved in cysticercosis research projects for more than 10 years, and is currently finalizing his PhD on NCC. Dr. Zulu has been involved in the management of NCC patients and is the link with the Ministry of Health having served as District and Provincial Health Director for the Ministry and has acted as liaison officer creating linkages with the Radiology and laboratory departments at the facilities where our project activities take place.

Prof. Kabemba Evans Mwape

Kabemba Evans Mwape is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Studies, School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zambia. He holds a PhD in Veterinary Tropical Diseases from the University of Pretoria and specializes in foodborne parasites, particularly Taenia solium. With nearly 20 years of research experience, he has led multiple international One Health projects on epidemiology, diagnostics, and control. He is the Principal Investigator for the UNZA partner in the 3SI Control Project.

Dr. Gideon Zulu

Gideon Zulu is a Medical Doctor, Public Health Specialist and researcher with over 19 years of experience working within Zambia’s public health systems. He holds a master’s degree in Public Health–Tropical Medicine and a PhD in Public Health–Zoonosis. Dr Zulu has been involved in projects mainly of a One-Health nature, focusing on the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, diagnosis, management and control of Taenia solium infections in Zambia. He is the site Principal Investigator for the 3SI-CONTROL project.

Dr. Chishimba Mubanga

Chishimba Mulooli Mubanga is a Lecturer of Veterinary Preventive Medicine at the University of Zambia with 18 years of veterinary and research experience. He is a veterinarian by profession and holds a PhD in Veterinary Sciences from the Universities of Zambia and Ghent. He has participated in international research projects and field studies in Zambia, investigating mainly the control and diagnosis of Taenia solium in rural communities. In the 3SI project, he is a co-researcher for the UNZA partner.

Christopher Lengwe

Christopher Lengwe is a medical doctor working at the Ministry of Health, Zambia. He has more than a decade of experience in leading public health and clinical programs to improve community health. He has worked as District Health Director implementing government health policies and managing community health programs that include Mass Drug Administration against malaria and worm infestations as well as vaccinations against COVID-19, Cholera, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), measles and polio.

Flata Mwale

Flata  Mwale is a Public Health Specialist with over ten years of experience working across Zambia’s public and private health sectors, supporting national efforts in HIV epidemic control, laboratory systems improvement, and health systems strengthening. She has led provincial programs, coordinated and implemented key health interventions, and guided technical teams in laboratory systems improvement across Zambia.
