SUA is a public institution involved in teaching, research, consultancy and outreach in various disciplines (veterinary-public health, food safety, communication technology, development studies, and social sciences). The university has been in the frontline to promote one-health research. SUA hosts the Cysticercosis Working Group in Eastern and Southern Africa (CWGESA), Cysticercosis Network of SSA (CYSTINET-Africa), leads the Afrique One-REACH thematic training program on Endemic and Emerging Zoonoses, and is a member of NeuroSolve project, all important networks that 3SI-CONTROL will network with. SUA will lead WP3 and will make considerable contributions to WP5 and WP6, and participate in WP4, WP7, WP8. Prof. Ngowi has been working on T. solium for many years, conducting research with a social sciences and educational focus. The university has necessary physical infrastructure, which will be complemented with the requested EU funding to enable high-quality implementation of the 3SI-CONTROL project activities.

Meet the people behind the project
Prof. Helena Ngowi
Prof. Helena Ngowi is an Associate Professor at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. Her research focuses on health promotion and Taenia solium-related zoonoses. She has contributed to WHO and OIE guidelines and serves on the World One Health Working Group. With over 100 publications, she has led seven international grants on One Health and infectious diseases. She co-leads the Implementation Science component in the 3SI-CONTROL project.
Herman Oscar
Herman Oscar is an academician at the Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania, with a background in Veterinary Medicine at the undergraduate level and M.Sc. Public Health and Pest Management. He has published on neglected tropical zoonotic parasites like Toxoplasma gondii. He’s currently enrolled as a PhD student under the 3SI-CONTROL PROJECT at the Sokoine University of Agriculture.
